What is included with my log shell package?

Generally what you can expect to receive with your package will be all the log work required to build the house, the log beams, posts, walls, stairs, railings and any hardware associated with the install. There is a contract with every house sold that states exactly what's included and should be carefully explained by your dealer before you make a purchase.

How much can the log package cost?

The price of a log home shell varies greatly. Factors that will effect the price are; the log species, size of logs used, type of build (i.e.: handcrafted or milled), and number of corners in your house. The more complex a log home, the higher the costs are associated with it. For example: a log home with 4 corners machine built with dead standing spruce will cost considerably less than an equivalent sized, 6 corner, cedar handcrafted home.

What is the difference between different log species?

At Telqua Log Homes we build with Englemann Spruce, Fir, and Cedar. Spruce is an attractive light colored wood and is the most economical and common for log home building. Fir is used often for roof beam work in many Spruce homes due to its strength and is priced slightly higher. Cedar is the most sought after wood for log homes. It has a nice color, is resistant to rot, and has its own natural pesticide. Cedar is also the most expensive wood for building.

What are the differences between a milled and handcrafted home?

Handcrafted log homes are limited to single stories due to shrinking issues. A handcrafted log home is much more natural looking than a milled log home and is generally a little more costly for the initial shell. To learn more about handcrafted log homes click here. Milled or machine built log homes are generally built from dead standing timber and are therefore not subject to as much shrinking. There are fewer limitations with building a milled log home which allows for such features as multiple stories, full log gable ends and a variety of finishing options.
